Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi - New Type

I drive one of the new type Mondeo's. It is the 2.0 TDCi model & I have driven almost 25,000 miles in it in just under 12 months. During this time, I have re-set the ave mpg setting on the trip computer 6 - 7 times.

On each occasion, it takes about 2 weeks to settle down & has always ended up between 43.5 & 44.5 mpg.

Having had 1 speeding ticket in almost 40 years of driving suggests I am not a boy racer but the thought of having a bit more power for overtaking certainly appealed to me.

I spoke to Mike at Rapid Remap, booked the car in for later that week & agreed to meet at 1.00p.m. on the day. After about 45 mins, the job was done.

It was easy to feel the difference straight away but difficult to know by how much. Over the next 2 weeks, most of my trips were very local including city centre driving, even though, I could tell there had been a small inc in mpg.

After about 3 weeks, my wife & I had a long weekend in mid & north Wales including a lot in Snowdonia. The car was lovely to drive. The increase in torque made gear changes less frequent, going up mountain roads was effortless & in a higher gear than normal & overtaking when required was so much quicker & smoother.

I re set the trip computer at the start of the journey & knowing the car as I do, expected about 45 mpg for the 450 mile weekend break. I was very surprised to see 50.1 mpg when we arrived home.

I had Mike set the car up for maximum power & not fuel economy. With the increase in performance & smoother driving alone, I would have thought it money well spent, to actually have an increase of just over 10% in mpg is a real bonus.
