Tuning Box or ECU Remap

Tuning box, diesel-tuning box, diesel performance tuning box are all names associated with plug in devices that work by making the ecu inject more fuel into the engine.

Tuning boxes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

Some well-established brands at the higher end of the price range do offer some benefits, but only provide an alternative solution when ecu remapping is not possible.

Tuning box prices

Prices tend to range between £150 - £599 or more, dependent on quality and the technical capabilities of the unit in question.

Some of the cheaper tuning boxes floating round the net, have developed a bad reputation for reliability, and in some cases have been known to damage the host vehicle.

In summary a tuning box of any description fools the ECU into operating outside of it’s programmed parameters, whilst a remap actually resets the base parameters that the ECU uses to control engine performance and efficiency.

Summary

Remapping works across a range of parameters and is the method that would be used by the vehicle manufacturer if they wanted to improve engine efficiency.

Remapping would always be our preferred option, however for technical reasons it is not possible to remap all modern vehicles.

When Remapping is not an option

In a situation where remapping is not possible, a Quality tuning box is a viable option open to you, and as such we are introducing our own tuning box options.

For the last few months we have been testing various tuning boxes in an attempt to find a good supplier, with a technical level we are comfortable with.
