Custom remapping is so called because the software modifications made are tailor made according to the actual vehicle and owners requirements.

Keep in mind that some companies supply only pre made or generic files, but still claim their are custom tuned to enhance the perceived value of their service

There is still some confusion with the general public with regard to the terminology used in the tuning industry, for example most people have heard of the words chip tuning, whilst others use performance tuning and now more a more the word remapping.

Even though remapping is gaining awareness, most people still think chip tuning and remapping are two separate things.

Whilst some vehicles still need to be tuned using the chip tuning method as described above, most new vehicles can be tuned by plugging a flash tool into the vehicles OBD otherwise known as the diagnostic port and this method is called remapping.

Some cars simply cannot be tuned by chip tuning, remapping or BDM methods.

BDM or background debugger mode is a more specialised way of tuning some modern vehicles and is commonly used where a particular ecu has a modern processor in place of removable memory chip.
